Why am I not Improving in English?

If this is the question you are asking to yourself, then congratulations you are already on the path of improvement, because this states that you are putting efforts to improve. You just need a right direction.

Try these tips to improve your English:

English is a language, and just like other languages it too needs regular practice. Try to practice as often as you can.

Get Familiar

Read English newspapers and articles, and if reading is too boring for you then watch English movies (and please, not Hindi dubbed), listen to English songs. The more familiar you get with this language, the more comfortable you will be while speaking and writing it.

Secret Practice

Like I said the more you will speak the more you will learn, so try to speak as much as you can. If you are too shy to speak in front of others then speak when you are alone, when no one is around like when you are in the bathroom or some place like it. Speak to yourself if you can’t speak to other, just do it if you really want to improve your speaking skills.

No Translations

Usually, people make a very common yet big mistake, they try to translate sentences from Hindi to English and this is a very wrong thing. A sentence can be said in many ways, so try to pick the most suitable one, it will not only improve your basic speaking skills, but it will make your English sound more advanced and elegant.

e.g: – if you want to say “Mujhe kuch nahi pata kya ho raha hai“, then you can say it in many ways like “I do not know what is happening“. But, it will be great if you say it like “I have no Idea what’s going on” etc.

So do not try to convert sentences exactly as they are in Hindi, try to choose the best option. If you want to speak in English you got to think in English, and the best way to do is getting familiar with this language.

How to Improve English Writing Skills

So above are the points to remember to improve speaking skills, but what about writing? speaking will not get marks for you, but writing will. Therefore, you need to work on your writing skills too.

Keep these points in mind to improve your English writing skills:

Firstly if you want to improve writing, then of course, you will need to write, that is why you need to be regular in your writing practice.

Keep Formatting Right

From exam prospect, the first thing you need to take care of is the formatting of whatever you are writing, e.g if you are practicing to write a notice then never forget to draw a box, headings etc. Because in CBSE almost half of the marks are for formatting.

Handwriting Matters

If your writing is not good then try to improve it, because it will make life a lot easy for the examiner and will create a positive impression which in return can help you earn few extra 5 to 10 marks.

Haddings Are Crucial

When writing an essay or any such thing always divide it into Parts like Introduction, Cause, problems, and solutions. Basically you should write content under headings, this will make your content look more relevant.

Grammar And Stuff

Since English is a language subject, therefore, you will need to take special care of your grammar, spellings and use of commas and full stops. You never know what the examiner is thinking while checking the copies.

Students spend so much time learning tenses and other grammar stuff, but fail to use it in sentences. You should know that the knowledge of grammar is useless if you can’t use it in your sentences. To improve this you can write more and more complex sentences because learning grammar is not important, but using it is.

Enhancing Imagination

If thinking content for essays, speeches etc. is your problem then here is a valuable tip for you. Try to relate the topic to your daily life and think of your daily life instances that happen to you or to people around you. Trust me it helps a lot.

In, English those questions are often asked where you need to give your point of view, and most of the students do not give relevant answers. To write a good answer for any of such question, you will have to imagine yourself in given condition, and think as if it is literally happening with you.

Hard words play very important role when it comes to writing. There are times when we get stuck with a sentence, we know what we want to say but just can’t get the right words, and we end up making long and bit irrelevant sentences. But if you have a hard word for it then you can save a sentence and lot of time for yourself, therefore, look for hard words and try to memorize them.

Follow these tips and give your efforts, and I guarantee you will go beyond 90’s in this board exam of English. Leave your comment if you want to clear any doubt, we will be more than happy to reply.
