Getting into the esteemed National Defence Academy is a dream for many men who want to serve in the prestigious Indian Armed Forces as officers. But to get through this institution one has to pass some examinations and tests that are not only tough but strict in all aspect.
After the written examination organized by the UPSC and securing the cut-off marks, the selected ones move further to the toughest of the stage and that is an interview before the SSB.

The procedure for the SSB interview is a 5-day long process which involves all the necessary aptitudes to get through the SSB. This procedure will start off by reporting to the coveted SSB centers where the candidates will be staying as per their clearing of stages.
Each test that is carried on during the SSB is to get an idea about the overall personality of the individual on all levels. Getting into the Indian Armed Forces means so much more than being physically fit because one has to have the mental capacity to come out and face the desperate of situations.
On the very first day, a screening is conducted for the aspirants where they are tested on simple verbal and non-verbal tests to decide the individual’s reasoning, description and quant capacity.
After the test, the selected candidates from the screening test are asked to stay and the others are requested to leave the campus. The selected aspirants move for the next test that is scheduled for the 2nd day.

On this day the psychological tests are carried on and the candidate’s mental capacity is judged. The third and fourth day consists of GTO tasks where the group tasks will provide an input to the officers conducting the test about the physical and organizational skills of the candidate.
The fifth day is the final stage where the candidates are called on for a one-to-one interview in front of the panel. After the 5 day process the selected candidates are asked to sit for the medical examination and if a candidate meets the medical needs, then they get ready to start their journey in the National Defence Academy.
Things to remember during the SSB
There are certain things that are essential to be kept in mind before you leave for your coveted journey. You are basically judged by the tiniest actions that you tend to do. Remember everybody is observing you in some way or the other.
- The impression that you give away will be a lasting one throughout this 5-day long period. So, try to dress properly, be smart but not over-smart and approach everybody with utmost respect and poise.
- The Military officers are known for their honesty so be true and don’t conceal any information. Always remember that the person interviewing you is an experienced and qualified officer and you won’t be able to fool them.
- Make a good repo with your contemporaries as they might end up becoming your co-cadets once you crack the SSB. Try to know them on an individual basis as it will be helpful for you during the group discussions.
- Don’t give in to falsehood as it may not only lessen your chances of cracking the SSB but may also destroy your career.
