NDA is not just an exam, it’s a passion for some and a dream for others. Not everyone is born to become an officer, but even those who are destined to get this honor, have to pass the set standards. First written, then SSB, a candidate is tested to his root before even getting the recommendation.

Though applying online for NDA is just nothing as compared to the tests that follow, but still, aspirants who are applying for the first time need some guidance before applying. In this article, all the details regarding NDA online application process are mentioned clearly.

NDA Online Application

# Important Details

  • Name of the Organization –  UPSC (Union Public Service Commission)
  • Name of the Examination – NDA (National Defence Academy)
  • Total Number of Posts (approx.) – update soon (Army; Navy; Air force)
  • Notification of Examination (Tentative) –  September – October, and May – June
  • Date of Examination (Tentative) – March – April, and August – September

# Eligibility

The Candidates who want to appear in the NDA exam must be a citizen of India, Nepal or Bhutan.

An aspirant must have completed class 12th or its equivalent from a recognized board. Class 12th Appearing students can also apply for the same.

A candidate must be between 16 ½  to 19½ yrs as on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence.

Only unmarried male candidates are eligible for the NDA examination.

The minimum height required in the physical test is 157 cm. For Gorkhas and belonging to hills of North-Eastern areas of India, Garhwal, and Kumaon, the minimum heights will be 5 cms less. In the case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum height can be reduced by 2 cm.

# Documents Required

  • Scanned passport size photo (size between 10 Kb to 20 Kb) in jpg format.
  • Scanned photo of signature (size between 5 Kb to 10 Kb) in jpg format.
  • Mark sheet of 10th and 12th to fill the marks and other important information in the application form.
  • Original ID proof such as voter ID/Passport/DL/Pan card/Aadhar Card.
  • NOC certificate if an applicant is currently working in Government Organization.

How To Apply For NDA

# Instructions Before Applying

  1. For accurate submission, candidates are instructed to fill the application form only from the official website of UPSC.
  2. Candidates must read each and every detail carefully before filling the application form.
  3. There are some fields which are marked with stars. They are mandatory to fill.
  4. Keep beside Pen and paper along with all the other documents while filling up the application form so as to avoid a rush.
  5. In Part I registration, a candidate needs to fill in his basic information. Click on the submit button only when you will check the filled information twice and thrice.
  6. To provide a valid e-mail id as the department will contact you at different stages of the examination process through this ID.
  7. After the Registration of part I and part II, candidates are instructed to check the filled details once again and further to click on the ‘I agree’ button to confirm.
  8. try to apply with a good internet connection, as slow internet can cause some problems while applying.
  9. A Candidate is advised to avoid submitting multiple applications. And if due to any circumstances, it happens then he must ensure that the applications with higher RID are complete in all respects.
  10. Do check your e-mail id on a regular basis, so as to stay updated with the latest information regarding the NDA exam.

Candidates can not make any corrections once the form is submitted. So, be 100% sure about the filled details before submitting the form.

Online Application Process

# Initial stage

  • Visit the official website of UPSC i.e upsconline.nic.in.
  • On the official website look for the link “Online application for various examinations of UPSC”.
  • Look for NDA, and then click on the link given under the “PART-I Registration” column.

# Part I Registration

This section of the form will include 4 pages (each one is described below). Make absolutely sure that the details you enter are 100% accurate and as per your documents.  Before the form, instructions to fill the form will appear, read all the instructions carefully, and then click on the “Yes” button.

  • Page 1 – Candidates Detail
    In this section, an applicant is required to fill in his personal details like Name, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Address, Community, minority, marital status, etc.
    Afterward, you have to fill in your educational qualification in this section. Apart from it, do mention your email address.
  • Page 2 – Choosing the Branch Preference
    Here, a candidate needs to fill his preference for the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. Further, there will question regarding students of Sanik/Military School or Son of JCO/NCO/Other Rank Officer. You have to mark your answer as Yes or No.
  • Page 3 – Verify your details
    This section allows the candidate to check the filled information again and correct his mistakes. In the end, there will be an “I agree” or “Submit” for the final submission of the application form.
  • page 4 – Generation of Registration ID
    On this page, the registration ID of the candidate will be displayed along with his other details. The email regarding the completion of the application procedure will be sent to the candidate’s provided mail id.

Do take a printout of the application form after the successful submission for future use.

Note: The candidates claimed for the fee exemption have to click on the “YES” response in the Fee Exemption claimed Field. Such candidates are not taken to Part II registration.

# Part II Registration 

  • Fee Payment: The payment can be done through cash/credit/debit card or net banking. The payment through internet banking will be done using the internet banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore. For the aspirants who want to pay the fee in cash, they need to take the printout of challan generated online after completion of registration. They may go to the nearest SBI branch for a depositing fee after 24 hours of generation of challan. After the successful payment of the application fee, an SMS alert will be sent to the candidates.
  • Filling the choices for Examination Centres: This Section must be filled very carefully. A candidate needs to fill the choices of the examination centers at his convenience. The Dropdown menu will help you to select the center of your choice.
  • Uploading of Photograph: In this section, candidates are to upload their scanned photograph in JPG format. The digital size of the file must be less than 40 kb and greater than 3 kb and the resolution 140-pixel height by 110-pixel width and Bit Depth of the image file should be 24 bit.
  • Uploading of Signature: The signature must be with a black ink pen on white background scanned in .jpg format. The file size should be between 1 KB – 40 KB and the pixel size should be 110*140.

the size of the photo and signature can easily be edit using the “MS paint” feature of windows, or you can try other photo editing software. It can also be done online, just search for “image resizer” on google, and tones of the website will appear.

# Part III – Check out the detail and click on “I agree”

In the end, you need to click on the  I have read the Declaration & Agree’ button. You have successfully submitted the application form. The message of the final submission will be received by the candidates via e-mail.

Q. I have made a mistake while filling the online form, I didn’t notice it at the time of form submission. what should I do? can I edit my form?

Ans. Once the form is submitted, then you can not make any changes to it. You will need to register yourself once again with a different e-mail ID. This is the only way.

Q. Where should I fill up my application form? Is there any Offline mode?

Ans.No, there is not any offline mode. You need to fill the application form online on the official website of the Union Public Service Commission, i.e. upsconline.nic.in.

Q. Is there any suitable time to fill the application form or one can fill it any time of the year?

Ans. You can fill the application form only when there is an official notification by the department. The notifications generally release during the month of September – October, and May – June.

Q. What should I do in the case of frequent delay in accessing the page?

Ans. There can be many factors of this delay like Internet Speed, large traffic on the page (a large number of applicants trying to register the application at the same time), etc. Therefore, if you are not able to access the registration page promptly, please retry after some time or during off-peak hours.

Q. If I leave the application form by filling only Part I, will it be rejected?

Ans. Yes, it will be rejected. You have to register yourself in both parts before the last date has been over.

Q. After completing part 1, Part 2 of the registration is not opening. What is the problem?

Ans. Maybe you have left some field empty in the form, go to the registration part again and look for the mistake. If the problem is still not resolved, then you will need to apply again with a different ID.

Q. Apart from SBI, is there any other bank where fees can be deposited by cash?

Ans.No, the fees can only be deposited in the branches of the State Bank of India by making use of the challan generated by the system.

Q. Can you please tell me how to convert the photograph into a desired format?

Ans. You can change the format of a scanned photograph in any desirable size by using free image editing software such as MSPaint.

Q. How do I know that my application is registered Successfully

Ans. Once you will be done with the registration of Part I and Part II, a fresh page will be displayed and you will get to know that the application has been submitted successfully. Afterward, the system will generate a unique number which is known as the Registration ID (RID). Note down this number which will be used at the time of downloading the admit card.

Q. I got a Blank Registration Number after the submission of the application form online?

Ans. This may mean that the application has not been submitted successfully and you are required to apply again.

Q. What kind of details should I retain after the completion of the successful submission of my form?

Ans. It is strongly advised that after submitting the online application form, the applicant must take a printout of the submitted application and keep the same for future reference. The candidate is also advised to keep his fee payment proof which might be required by the commission in case of any discrepancy.

Q. Do I require to send a hard copy of the application to UPSC after submitting my online application?

Ans.No hard copy to be sent to UPSC unless it is asked for any reason. However, it is strongly instructed that the candidate keep a hard copy of his application for his own record and future communication with the commission if any.

  4. What is the minimum percentage required in class 12 to join Air force through NDA?

      To apply for Air force through NDA, there is no minimum percentage criteria. You should just be 10+2 pass with science stream (for air force and navy).

      It is good to see that you are looking forward to join Indian army but as you have mentioned that you are doing B.Sc so, first make sure you fit in the age limit criteria which is 16 and half year to 19 and half years.       As, you have mentioned that you are in 11th class and is interested in joining army then your best option is to prepare for NDA exam. This exam is conducted by UPSC twice a day for 12th appearing and 12th pass out students who aspires to join Indian army, Navy and Air force as officers. The age limit for this exam is 16 and half to 19 and half. Next year when you enter 12th class you can apply for this exam. This is the golden opportunity for you.       As you have mentioned you are appearing for class 12th so, you are eligible. But you must keep in mind the age limit for the exam that is 17 years to 19 and half years.
