SSC CHSL vs Bank Clerk -Which is Better (especially for Girls)?

Government jobs are still more preferable as compared to any other jobs. The job security, good remuneration, career growth attracts lakhs of students to be part of the government organization.  The government needs staff for the day-to-day functioning of the organization. Staff Service Commission or SSC CHSL is one of them. Another opportunity is a bank clerk.

It is said that you do what you like you never feel you are doing the work. It is important to understand the job profile. So keeping this phrase it is very important to understand some crucial before start preparing for the examination like SSC CHSL or Bank Clerks.

Bank Clerk: A bank clerk is responsible for handling the day-to-day business of the bank. The exams are conducted by IBPS for some Public Sector Banks. However, some bank conducts its own independent exam.

Job Profile and Ease of work

Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants: Postal assistants are posted to post offices situated in towns or remote areas. Their work is to dispatch collect mailbags and dispatch them to the receivers. Sorting Assistants will have to sort the posts coming in the postal departments. The workload is not much.

Data Entry Operator: A Data Entry operator is responsible for maintaining details of staff members like member salary, registering the name of the employee, and making their identity cards. The workload is less.

Lower Division Clerk: The Lower Division Clerk is the entry-level of a clerk in any organization. They have to handle daily office tasks and responsibilities for maintaining data and documents of the office systematically. The work requires effort. However, they are easy to do.

Court Clerk:  Court Clerk is responsible for performing day-to-day administrative duties in criminal and civil justice systems. They have to assist other court executives as well as judges and lawyers. The work requires effort and research work.

Bank Clerk: A bank clerk has to help the customer by telling them how to fill forms requesting money, how to get cheques or any other specific query by the customer. They have to verify Know Your Customer as per the guidelines prescribed by RBI before opening their account.

They also have to explain the salient features of products and services to the customers rolled out by the bank from time to time. They have to maintain and updates the accounts of customers.

Job Benefits and Timings

Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants: The pay scale for the assistant and sorting assistant job is between INR 5200-20,200. The Grade pay is INR 2400. The benefit is the employee can work in shifts. Sorting Assistants will have to sort the posts coming in the postal departments.

They work in three shifts of 6:00am to 2:00pm, 2:00pm to 10:00pm and 6:00pm to 6:00 am. If someone opts for night shifts, he has to work every alternative night shift.

Data Entry Operator: The pay scale of the Data Entry Operator is INR 5200-20,200. The grade pay for postcode D is INR 2400 and the grade pay for postcode E is INR 1900.

Lower Division Clerk: The pay structure of Lower Division Clerk is INR 5200-20,200 and the grade pay is INR 1900. The duties include work of routine nature like maintenance of section dairy, typing, comparing, preparation of arrears, and other statements. The benefit of working as an LDC is there is less work.

Court Clerk: The salary structure of the court clerk is INR 5200-20,200 and the grade pay is INR 1900. The benefit of the court clerk is that there is a promotion on regular basis.

Bank Clerk: Bank clerks are given a good remuneration. They are given additional perks and benefits. The perks and benefits may vary from one public sector bank to another. Like employees of the Canara Banks are given 10 liters of petrol allowance, canteen allowance, a monthly newspaper allowance, etc. The basic salary is 11,765 rupees and the gross salary with HRA may vary from 20,340 rupees to 20,040 rupees.

The office timing of the clerks depends upon the banking operations of the particular branch. In the branches, where banking hours are between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm the clerks need to work from 9:45 am-4:30 pm.

However, in some bank branches where the banking hours are between 10:30 am-4: 30 pm, clerks are required to work from 10:05 am-5: 00 pm.

Postings and Transfer

Postal Assistants/ Sorting Assistants: The carrier progress is very high in PA/SA as a lot of government initiatives like passport Seva, Aadhar card is sent to the postal department.

Data Entry Operator:  After completing two years of service they are eligible for appearing in the Subordinate Audit/Account Service Exam.

Lower Division Clerk: The employee may be promoted to upper-division clerk after completing a 5 to 7-year tenure. The promotions vary from department to department.

Court clerk: The court clerk may be promoted to Senior Clerk, Hear clerk, and finally to the office superintendent.

Bank Clerk: As per the bank transfer policy employees will be transferred within the period of 3 years. They may be posted anywhere within the organization as per the need of the bank. It may be in the interior regions of the town.

But women are generally not transferred in the interior regions. They are generally posted in the town or cities located to their residence. After going through all the job profile, benefits transfer we can say bank clerk will be preferable for the girls.

However, girls can also make their career in Lower Division Clerk or Data Entry Operator. They have less fieldwork and postings are generally in cities as compared to postal assistants/sorting assistants.
