Inspiring Stories of Underprivileged Students Who Cracked IIT JEE

Success comes to only those who are always prepared to fight all odds and never stop trying. This is especially true in the case of cracking IIT-JEE. This exam is one of the toughest in the world and gives you the privilege of coming under the category of a brilliant student as well as getting a highly coveted chance to study in Indian Institute of Technology. Currently, there are 23 in India and only 9k students are given a chance to enter the institutes. But it doesn’t stop lakhs of students from joining IIT classes and working dedicatedly for even years to crack this exam in over 500 centers in India.

The story of Underprivileged students who cracked IIT JEE

When you come from a financially secure- educated background, your chances of cracking the exam seem to increase simply because your family takes care of all your needs and provides you with the best IIT coaching classes. But for underprivileged kids, it’s a completely different story.

They come from an uneducated and financially poor background which automatically puts them at a disadvantage because they do not have the money for basic necessities, let alone IIT classes.

But that hasn’t stopped them from being the star of their own success stories that will prove once again that never giving up on your dreams can make you do unbelievable things.  We bring to you 6 students who have beaten all odds and cracked IIT JEE in the very first go:

1. Arbaaz Alam

Egg seller’s son ‘cracks’ JEE

Cracking IIT JEE is no piece of cake! The son of an egg seller seemed to prove otherwise by bagging a place in the IIT- JEE rank list. Hailing from Bihar’s Shareif district in Bihar, Arbaaz has always dreamed about changing his poverty-stricken life by working hard day and night. One of the Super 30 students under Anand Kumar; who provides free food, lodging and coaching to underprivileged students, this wonderful boy has shown immense dedication.

When asked about his inspiration he beams while talking about Anand Kumar, who he says boosted his confidence about his abilities and never stopped believing in it.

2. Vibilisetti Mohan Abhyas

A samosa a day keeps the ranks coming your way

This 17-year-olds parents run their own roadside samosa stall in Andhra, bagged the 1st position in south India and 64th position all over India. His whopping score of 310/366 can be attributed to his 10 hours of dedicated studying every day. He would even request his junior college authorities to let him stay on campus for after college studying.

But this humble buy says that if it weren’t for his teachers and parents providing support and fuelling his dreams, he wouldn’t have cracked IIT JEE. Vibilisetti dreams of becoming a scientist one day and has shifted with his family to Hyderabad.

3. Adarsh Lal

General store owner’s extraordinary son

Adarsh who cracked IIT JEE with a rank of 7040, is the first person from his entire village to enter IIT. His father a general store owner makes a meager income of 7k RS which is spent on the education of his other 2 sons.

Adarsh owes his success to his father who worked hours to repay the loans he took but never let them live even a day without food. Also a product of Super 30, this shy genius recalled how Anand played a big role in his success. He is now determined to make his father proud and aims to be a top chemical engineer in India.

4. Arpit Prajapat

Gardener’s son reaps fruits of his hard work

Hailing from Indore, Arpit cracked IIT JEE with the 46th rank all over India in the advanced category and 244th rank in the Main category in 2017. This 17-year-old put in immense effort which gave him a strong understanding of the concepts, giving him an upper hand over the other students.

He attributed his success to his father- Harenam who works up to 14 hours a day to make a living and never distracted Arpit with any of his financial troubles or hardships. This loving son is now focused on developing equipment and techniques to ease the task of gardening for his father and so many like him.

6. Abhishek Kumar Bharatiya

Hailing from a poor family in Kanpur, Abhishek would help his parents to earn money in the morning and study until dawn after that. His parents would mend and stitch clothes to feed their family of 6 and often struggled with their hand to mouth existence. By saving up for study material they provided Abhishek with, this 17-year-old had no choice but to self-study.

His dream of becoming an aerospace engineer was finally possible when he cracked IIT JEE with 154th rank all over India. He attributed his success story to his parents and teachers of Bhabha coaching classes who let him attend a few free classes after they saw his potential.

7. Bhairulal

Laborer’s son gets the result of his labor

Bhairulal comes from a village in Rajasthan which lacks even basic facilities but that did nothing to stop him from achieving the 1143rd rank in the OBC category and 6750th rank in JEE (advanced). His mother and father both are uneducated laborers who struggled to feed the family and educate him. He dreams of pursuing computer science or mechanical engineering and inspiring other kids from his village to get an education and fulfill their ambitions.

He went on to say that the main reason he cracked IIT JEE was that his parents who encouraged him day and night to study and worked hard by cultivating land and selling milk to pay for his education.

These stories prove that you don’t need to have a certain financial status to achieve success in life. You can be from the smallest of villages but all you need is a  belief in yourself, determination and hard work to not just crack IIT-JEE, but also to change your life and go after what you really want!
