The process to get into IITs

The main JEE entrance examinations that the students must pass to get admission into IIT’s are the JEE Mains, and then the JEE Advanced.

JEE Mains generally have 2 separate papers, i.e. Paper I for the students who wish to get admission in the B. Tech and B. E. courses that come under the reputed government IIT’s, NIT’s, and other government-affiliated institutions; while the Paper II is conducted who wish to get admission in the B. Arch. courses.

Students have an option either to give both papers, or only the first or the second one. The main paper generally consists of around 90 objective type questions, in which 30 questions are from physics, 30 from chemistry, and remaining 30 from Mathematics. The students have exactly 3 hours to complete the paper, or around 1 hour to complete the questions of every subject. There is a negative marking of around -1 marks for every wrong question in this paper.

After the students pass the JEE Mains with good cut off marks, then they will have to pass the JEE Advanced examination where giving both Paper I and Paper II is mandatory to give and pass. There are around 54 questions of 183 marks asked in the Advanced paper.
