# UP Police Constable Age Limit

Note: The age relaxation is only applicable to candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) who belong to UP. Reserved categories from other states will not be granted any relaxation.

  • The minimum age for all candidates (irrespective of gender or category) is 18 years. Someone who is not yet 18 years old will be considered not to be fulfilling the UP police constable eligibility criterion.
  • The upper age limit for male candidates belonging to the general category is 22 years.
  • For males who belong to reserved category i.e. SC/ST/OBC, the upper age limit is 28 years, meaning they will get 5 years of age relaxation.
  • Female applicants from the general category can apply till 25 years.
  • 5 years of relaxation is given to female candidates belonging to the reserved category, which makes the upper age limit for them 31 years.

# Educational Qualification

An applicant must be at least a 12th pass or its equivalent from a recognized board to be eligible for constable. There is no percentage clause for this exam, meaning, anyone who is 12th pass can apply. But, here are some important points that you must know before applying:

  • The applicants need to show their educational certificate before appearing for the written exam. Failing to do so will result in disqualification.
  • Anyone who is in his/her last year and is waiting for the result can not apply.

To put the above points in simple words, you can not apply for this exam if you haven’t received your passing certificate yet.

Candidates who have additional qualifications like an ‘O’ level certificate, NCC ‘B’ certificate, etc. will be given preference in case of a draw. Meaning, if two candidates have scored equal marks, then preference will be given to the one who will have some additional qualification. Keep in mind that there are no extra marks for additional qualifications.

Physical Eligibility For UP Police Constable

Being in the police force means one has to be physically fit, this is why the physical eligibility for UP police is strict and each candidate needs to be up to the mark to get in the force. In this section, we will discuss all the physical standards needed to apply for a constable.

  • The relaxation in height will only be given to candidates belonging to the SC category.
  • The height for SC males is 160 cm (5.2 feet).
  • For males belonging to any other category, the height required is 168 cm (5.5 feet).
  • For the SC category female, height should be 147 cm (4.8 feet).
  • For females belonging to a category other than SC, their height should be 152 cm (4.9 feet).

# Chest

The chest eligibility criterion for police constable is only applicable to males. Though, the chest of females should be well developed according to age.

  • The minimum chest for SC candidates is 77 cm without expansion, and 82 cm after expansion.
  • For males other than the SC category, the minimum chest should be 79 cm without expansion and 84 cm after expansion.
  • Note that 5 cm of expansion is necessary for all candidates.

# Weight

The weight of candidates should be according to BMI and age. There are no specific guidelines for weight for males, but for females, the required is 40 kg.

Other Eligibility Criteria for UP Police Constable

# Nationality

If you are one of the following then you are eligible: an Indian citizen, a Tibetan refugee that migrated to India before 1st January 1962.

# Marital Status

Unlike many other government jobs, a married person is eligible to apply for UP police constable.

  • If a male candidate has more than one living wife then he can not apply.
  • If a female candidate is married to a man who already has a living spouse, then she is not eligible to apply.
  • If presented with relevant reasons, a person can be given relaxation in the above scenarios.

# Physical fitness

Any kind of physical or mental illness will directly result in rejection. So, candidates should make sure that they do not have any physical shortcomings that may hinder their efficiency while on duty.

Additional Information About UP Police Constable Eligibility

In addition to the age relaxation mentioned above in this article, there are some other categories for which relaxation is given. First, let’s look at the percentage of reservations for different categories.

The dependants of freedom fighters will not be eligible for any age relaxation, although there is a 2% reservation for them. But, not all dependants can get the reservation benefits, only the Sons, grandsons, daughters, and granddaughters can get the benefits. Also, adopted sons and daughters will also be eligible for the reservation.

Physical test for UP police constable

Though it may not be of much relevance right now, those who will pass the written exam will have to go through the physical efficiency test (PFT). It’s always good to know what may come next, so here is a brief description of the PFT.

  • Male candidates will have to cover a distance of 4.8 km within 25 min, to pass the PFT.
  • For female candidates, the distance will be 2.4 km which they have to cover within 14 min in order to get through the physical test.
