SSC MTS Syllabus And Paper Pattern 2024

The Staff Selection Commission or SSC releases the recruitment notification for MTS and Havaldar together, which often causes confusion among the applicants as the paper pattern and selection process of MTS is different than Havaldar. Also, the number of vacancies is way more for MTS than havaldar, therefore, chances of success or higher if you apply for MTS. In this article, we will cover the paper pattern and syllabus for MTS and not for Havaldar.

The MTS session 1 exam is qualifying in nature but it does not mean you must take it for granted. Since the level of this exam is easy, applicants often take it lightly, but they should know that the competition in this exam is tight, and losing even a single mark can prove deadly.

For someone who is applying for the first time for the Multi Tasking Staff exam, the paper pattern can be a bit tricky. The structure of this exam is such that without a clear explanation it would look very confusing, so let’s first understand the exam pattern.

The MTS exam is conducted in 2 phases, session 1 and session 2. Let’s break each session into points for clearer understanding.

# Session 1

  • Session 1 is qualifying in nature.
  • Participants need to give at least 12 or more correct answers to qualify for the next session.
  • Marks scored in session 1 will not be added further.
  • There is no negative marking for session 1.
  • 20 questions from Math (numerical & mathematical ability) and 20 questions from Logical Reasoning (reasoning ability & problem solving) are asked in this session.
  • Each question is of 3 marks.
  • A total of 40 questions for 120 marks are asked.
  • 45 minutes (1.15 hr) is given to complete this session.

Note: Only those candidates who will give 12 or more correct answers in this session will be allowed to proceed to the next session.

# Session 2

  • Final selection is done on the basis of marks scored in session 2 by candidates.
  • There is a negative marking of 1 mark for every wrong answer.
  • 25 questions from GK or general awareness and 25 questions from English (English language & comprehension) are asked in this session.
  • Each question carries 3 marks just like in session 1.
  • A total of 150 questions worth 150 marks are asked in session 2.
  • Participants will have 45 minutes to complete this session too.

Note: Both the sessions are held separately on the same day.

How to Cover the SSC MTS Syllabus & Preparation Tips

Control English: English is perhaps the most important subject in the whole MTS syllabus. Someone who has a good grip on English is more likely to score good marks. Therefore, it is absolutely important for aspirants to hone their skills in English.

GK is Broad: simply put, no one can ever say that he/she has mastered GK. This subject can never be covered fully. The best way to keep up with it is to stay in touch with the latest and important events and news all around the world.
