JEE Main Cutoff Marks 2023
Nowadays, student’s excitement is at its peak point and they are registering for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) with an aim to take admission in top engineering colleges. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is conducting the JEE Main 2022 examination, which is going to be held in the month of Feb-May.
After giving the exam, the answer key will be available to students to check their answers issued by the Board. The answer key will give you a rough idea about your marks or in other words, either you are clearing the exam or not, with the help of previous year cutoff marks. For e.g. the last year’s cutoff for the general category was 82 marks and you are scoring more than 82, this means you are eligible and going to the next level.
The result and cut off marks of the JEE Main examination will be declared at the end of April. Joint Admission Board (JAB) will issue the JEE Main cut off marks. Cutoff marks are published online (only) and it is different for every category (Gen/ST/SC/OBC).
Candidates who scored more marks than the cutoff marks can take admission in NITs, IIITs, other government, and private institutions. Those who opted for Paper I (B.Tech or B.E.) can apply for the JEE Advance exam, but the JEE Advance exam is not compulsory, it’s a choice for students who want their undergraduate courses from the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs).
JEE Main Previous Year Cutoff Marks
Previous year cutoff marks play a very important role in predicting the cut-off of the JEE Main examination and provide a review of the exam. The Board will announce the JEE Main Result of Paper I on 30th April and Paper-II on 31st May with the cutoff marks. Candidates need to clear the cutoff marks to score top rank and take admission in institutions as per their choice.

Looking at the figure mentioned in the table above, as you can see that the cut-off marks are decreasing from 2015 to 2017. Last year, 12 lakhs applicants registered for JEE Main, and out of which, 11 lakh appeared for the examination. From the total, 8 lakh candidates cleared the JEE Main exam and from this, 2.20 lakhs top rank holding candidates appeared for JEE Advance exam. (Note: The value are taken as an approximation, it can differ in precision)

# Important Parameters for JEE Main 2022 Cutoff Marks
CBSE will take the following parameters into consideration for JEE Main cutoff marks, which are:
- Total number of applicants appeared for JEE Main
- Number of questions asked in the exam
- The difficulty level of the exam
- Candidate’s performance
- Number of seats available in JEE Main participating institutes
- Marks obtained by applicants in the entrance exam
JEE Main 2023 Rank List
In the past years, the marks of class 12th were considered in calculating the All India Rank (AIR) of the JEE Main exam. But from this year, Board has done some changes i.e. the marks of class 12th will not be taken into account while calculating JEE Main Rank.
After the announcement of the result along with cutoff marks, the merit list will be published which will differ in marks as per the category (GEN/OBC/SC/ST). Merit list holds your rank number through which you can get admission in NITs, IIITs, and other CFTIs. And applicants who want to pursue engineering courses through IITs can apply for JEE Advanced. But, only the top 2,40,000 rank holders are eligible for JEE Advance exam.
Your dedication and hard work will pay off when the JEE Main rank list will announce. The more you score, the higher your rank will be. If in any case, two or more candidates score the same marks, then the inter-se merit method will be applied according to:
The tie of the Rank list for Paper I:
If a candidate score higher marks in mathematics will be given a better rank.
If a candidate score higher marks in physics will be given a better rank.
If a candidate has a higher accurate ratio i.e. ratio of positive and negative marks, will be given a better rank.
If the solution will not find by this method, then candidates will get the same rank.
The tie of the Rank list for Paper II
If a candidate obtains higher marks in the aptitude test, will be given a better rank.
If a candidate obtains higher marks in the drawing test, will be given a better rank.
Higher rank will be given according to their positive and negative marks ratio.
If still there is a tie after these methods, candidates will be given the same rank.
After the announcement of the JEE Main All India Rank and JEE Advance result, JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) will call the candidates who secured their rank in the rank list, for counseling related to admissions.
