Territorial Army Salary Structure – Common Terms

It is not easy to understand the salary structure of a government department in India, especially if you are looking at it for the first time. To make things easier for you to understand, we will first clarify all the basic terminologies that are used in the following article, then explain how the salary is calculated for the territorial army, and then finally take a look at the pay matrix table.

What are allowances?

Allowances are the compensations that are given to the employees for the expenses that they might have to incur due to work-related tasks. For example, an employee may have to travel to some place for a work-related task, in that case, all the expenses that he/she will incur like traveling, staying, food, etc. will be compensated in form of an allowance. For travel expenses, employees are given travel allowance and so on.

These allowances are not fixed, some organizations may provide a lot of allowances, while some will only give the bare minimum. It’s totally up to the organization. Below in this article, we have given the list of allowances that the Territorial army provides to its employees.

What is Grade Pay & Basic Pay?

Basic pay: Simply put, basic pay is the minimum salary that an employee will receive. The overall salary is calculated by adding basic pay and other allowances like DA (dearness allowance) etc.

Grade pay is a concept that was introduced in the 6th pay commission in order to properly differentiate between the hierarchy of the central government employees. It has now been replaced by the pay matrix level in the 7th pay commission.
