Here is a little intro to TA in case you are not fully aware of it. TA or territorial army is like a helping hand for the regular Indian army. The main task of the TA is to relieve the army of its static duty. The people who join this department get to serve the nation as a regular army for a couple of months in a year.

Indian Territorial Army Recruitment Process For Soldiers

Despite being a reputed department, many people do not know about TA, and one of the main reasons behind this is TA does not provide full-time employment. Everyone in India tries for a government job, though, TA provides a government job, it lacks the main feature of a government job, i.e job security as you are just employed for a few months. Another big reason is the lack of awareness of the territorial army recruitment process.

For those of you who don’t know, TA offers two entry schemes, one is as a soldier or JCO, and the other one is as an officer. In this article, we will discuss the selection process of both entries, but first, let’s begin with the soldier entry.

1. TA soldier recruitment process 2025

We dug the whole internet, but could not find anything that provides accurate information on the recruitment process for TA soldiers or jawan. According to the official website, the applicants will have to report to the recruiting office on the dates mentioned in the advertisement for recruitment that will be released in new papers and official web portals of the army. The information about the tests will be given in the advertisement. Applicants should stay in touch with the employment newspapers and official website so that they do not miss the opportunity.

Though the complete recruitment process is not clear for jawan or soldiers in the territorial army, but here is a rough idea of what stages may be included

Stage 2 – written test: The recruitment process may also include some sort of written test, therefore candidates are advised to be prepared.

Stage 3 – medical test: once a candidate passes all the tests he will have to go under a medical test to check for any medical shortcomings.

Stage 4 – joining and training: once a candidate clears all the above stages then he will be given the final call letter in which the details of joining and training will be mentioned.

Indian Territorial Army Recruitment Process For Officers

As we know from our article “all about Indian territorial army” both civilians and ex-service officers can apply for officers post in the territorial army. We will first take a look at the TA recruitment process for civilians.

2.  TA civilians recruitment process 2025

Stage 1: Application:- In the era where almost all government departments is opting for online applications, Ta is sticking to the good old-fashioned offline mode. To apply as a solider in TA, the applicant first needs to download the application form from the official website, and then send it to the following address:

“Directorate General Territorial Army, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence, 4th Floor, ‘A’ Block, Ministry of Defence Office, Complex, KG Marg, New Delhi- 110001.

Stage 2 – written exam: Once the application of the applicant is found correct and is accepted, then he/she will receive a call letter for a screening test which will include a written exam and interview. The details will be mentioned in the call letter.

Stage 3 – Preliminary interview: Once a candidate clears the written exam, then he becomes eligible for the preliminary interview. The PIB (Preliminary Interview Board) will decide if the candidate is eligible for further rounds or not.

Stage 4 – SSB interview: After getting approval from PIB, the selected candidate will need to go through the 5 day SSB interview (link NDA / CDS). This is the toughest phase of the territorial recruitment process.

Stage 5 – Medical Test: Once all the above stages are cleared by a candidate, then he/she will need to go under one final medical test.

3.  TA Ex-service officers recruitment process 2025

The selection process for ex-defence officers is easy as compared to the civilians, and the obvious reason for this is the experience they bring in. Let’s take a quick look at their recruitment process.

Stage 1 – Application: Just like the civilian entry, the candidates applying for the TA officers post will also have to apply first. The process of application is the same (given above in this article).

Stage 2 – Call up letter:  once the application is accepted by TA then the candidate will receive a call-up letter that will be sent by post by the TA directorate.

Stage 3 – ASB screening: The selected candidates will have to appear for screening in front of ASB (Army Headquarters Selection Board) that is held at the additional directorate general TA, integrated headquarters of the ministry of defence (complete address is given above).

Step 4 – Medical Exam: Once a candidate passes the ASB screening, then he/she is called for a medical test. And after clearing the medical exam, the candidate is given the joining letter.
