As we know, salaries of different posts of government jobs are structured according to the pay level of the 7th pay commission matrix, the posts that are given after clearing the Group D exam fall under level 1 of this pay matrix.

In the above table :

• Pay level: The pay level in the 7th pay commission matrix determines the minimum and maximum basic salary that the posts falling under that level will get. Group D posts come under level 1.
• Basic pay: This is the minimum salary that is given to the post that comes under the respective level. e.g. the minimum salary for level 1 is ₹18000. This means no matter what, the employee joining at level 1 will get a minimum of ₹18000.

Allowances and Benefits on RRB Group D Salary

The railways of India provide different kinds of allowances and perks to its employees. In this section we will discuss the main allowances that are given to employees that are recruited through RRB Group D.  Please note that these are not the exact figures and may vary depending on various factors.

# House and rent allowance (HRA)

For government employees who do not get residential facilities are given compensation in the form of HRA. The amount is decided based on the location of the employee where he/she is posted. The locations are divided into 3 categories i.e. X, Y, and Z. The amount given as HRA to an employee posted in a location that comes under the X category is 24% of Basic pay (₹4320). Whereas, someone who is posted in the Y category location is liable to get 16% of Basic pay (₹2880) as HRA. For locations that come under the Z category, the HRA is only 8% of Basic pay (₹1440). The locations are categorized according to the population. Cities that have a population of fewer than 50 lakhs come under the x category, and between 5 lakhs to 50 lakhs come under the Y category, and if the population is more than 50 lakhs, then it will come under the Z category.

# DA (Dearness Allowance) and TA (Travel Allowance)

DA or dearness allowance is simply the amount paid to government employees as compensation for inflation. The current value of this allowance is ₹3,060 for Group D employees. TA or travel allowance is the compensation to cover the expenses paid by a government employee to travel for his/her organization’s work. This is not fixed as the allowance may be more or less according to the location.
